Real Football

Youth in Nsaru, Malawi now have a "real" football!
They had been using a ball made from plastic bags.

If you are a young man living in Malawi, then you are also a huge football (aka soccer) fan. Every week 12 - 18 boys from Nsaru and neighboring villages come together for a lively footballlmatch. But before the game begins, the member of Gospel Harvest take time to study God's Word and to pray. The hearts and lives of these future leaders of Nsaru are being encouraged and changed as they experience God's love displayed through a church that is recognizing their value and investing in them. More importantly, adults--mostly women--are learning to read.

Go ye therefore into all the world...

Sometimes our world becomes a cross-continent and venture, but much of the time our world is "our own backyard." Without any excuses, the Gospel Harvest Church at Nsaru village has purposely set out to share God's love and the message of His salvation by working to meet the needs in their community.

There are no chalkboards of desks. There are no student books or teacher's manual. But there are 10 students (ages 29-42) who are enthusiastically learning to read Chichewa and do basic math. Many of the students are members of Gospel Harvest Church who simply desire to read the Bible on their own. Since Pastor Seleman and his church wanted to reach out to the whole village, four fellow villagers are not only seeing their lifelong dream come true, but they are also experiencing the love and provision of a good God in a very tangible way.

The pastors and leaders are working together with greater unity to fulfill the mission of Gospel Harvest Ministries. With a renewed determination, we are pursuing the lost with the message of God's love and working to build a strong body of believers who are standing on the Word of God and receiving what is promised. Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering for He is faithful that promised.

In June, Ebenezer, Pastor Maston's son and my right-hand man, was notified of his acceptance into a highly-esteemed private college. What a wonderful opportunity for Ebenezer to use his faith as he had been learning in the Basics of Faith course offered through the AFCMITC Video Bible School. You see in the natural, the $500 needed for his first semester was not a possibility, but Ebenezer and his family had been taught that faith is an action. Faith continues to believe God's Word no matter what it does or does not see.

The day came for Ebenezer to move on campus. That morning I found him packing his suitcase and preparing to go even though the monies had not yet manifested in the natural. Despite what their circumstances were saying, they chose to consider the One Who had promised. They were

holding on to the promise God had given them. True to the Word, by late afternoon, Ebenezer had joined the freshman class at the African Bible College with his first semester tuition paid in full. We give all praise and honor to our good God! His faithfulness has caused us to move from one level of glory to the next. Surely we will not be the same again!

In the love of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Konnie

These ladies in Malawi, Africa fill every Wednesday with laughter and joy. I am always encouraged by their desire to learn the Word of God and their diligence to put the Word into practice on a daily basis. They love praying for each other; every week we see God moving in our behalf. Florida and Noria are becoming two special friends. They have reached out to me in a sweet way--constantly encouraging and praying for me. Naomi is very fun loving and takes great delight in checking on my progress in learning Chichewa.

The children's outreach program has just about outgrown Pastor Maston's house! They are memorizing the Word and bringing their school friends who don't even live in the neighborhood. We are introducing the children to Jesus through storytelling, skits and puppets. Every week the kids are drawing pictures of the lesson that I will bind into a book for each one to keep. Their pictures are beautiful.

We taught the ladies how to fry chicken. They can easily prepare and sell this at the street market to earn extra income for their families. There is great hunger in Malawi to crush the enemy of poverty and lack. I am so thankful to each of you for your prayers and financial support.
